Crime stats are public information, however police reports typically are not unless you are a party to the report. Simply go to the PD with jurisdiction and request stats and any publicly available information for that area. If there's some resistance, check with the neighborhood watch person at that department and tell them you are considering moving into the area and would like to know what to expect.

you just go to the Police Department that is over the area that you want to get a report on and they can tell you in the last year or so... how many of what kinds of crimes have taken place within a certain mile radius of an address
Normally costs a few dollars.... worth it though
