It really depends on what you want to do with it.. but I'm going to assume your talking about your run of the mill consumer camera.

For this I must suggest the Cannon a640 (the a630 and a620 too)
- uses 4 AA batteries
- 4x optical zoom
- 10 mega pixels
- movies with sound
- 2.5 in display
- Uses SD cards
- auto and manual focus
- auto or selectable ISO from 80-800

For color reproduction I just like Canon... I have recommended the power shot for a few years now and I just like them, and so have the customers that have went out and bought them

I have sold customers with these cameras NiMh (rechargeable) and I haven't seen any come back so I don't think the difference in voltage (1.2v for NiMh and 1.5v for other AA) affects battery life of the camera, and i would definitely recommend them. If not (or as a backup if you do buy rechargeable) I suggest lithium batteries, they cost more up front, but cost less per picture in the long run (cost twice as much, but last 5-7 times longer)

OK...digital cameras won't last even 10 minutes with just common AA batteries...they need special ones...at least AA NiMH batteries (older NIKONs use this type of batteries, but now all of them use Lithium ion batteries).

anyway, if you're still sticking on buying a camera that uses AA batteries, (or any type of batteries) check out Nikons.

If you can wait, check out the new Olympus 18x zoom digicam coming out next month.

18x optical zoom!!!! RAW, Imagestabilization. Everything you want.

And I love Olympus cameras.

If you can't wait, the Canon A640 has good reviews. Check dpreview.com
