The Suzuki Method is a great way to start, you can get the books and CDs at your local music store. If you have the time and money, you should consider a private teacher. In the meantime, try to figure out easy songs, like Mary Had a Little Lamb, or Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star. This may not be the most exciting music, but you have to start somewhere!
Good luck!

I have been teaching myself using the Suzuki books. Go buy the first book. The songs in it should be simple enough for most beginners and there are also practice exercises (like scales) in it. You can also get a CD to go with it so you can hear what the songs are supposed to sound like.

I use Suzuki. It starts out with the basic stuff, but as you go on you begin to learn more interesting songs that get more complex and build upon each other. DOn't try to skip ahead, though, because the "baby ****" is the important stuff that the more complex songs need. . .

anyway, look up Suzuki online or something and order the books and you'll be learning that stuff in no time

Go to www.jwpepper.com - an online music store. Look for violin methods that have an accompanying CD that will give you additional practice.

I agree with whiteknight. Suzuki has some good stuff, even in the first book, that will make you feel like you're playing real music.
