If you don't support the War than you're not supporting the Troops... We all want the war to be over... Our Troops are fighting and some dying for what they believe is right so I'll stand behind, in front, and beside all of our Troops until every last one comes home....

I would like to thank all our military personnel for your sacrifices. I have a son in the Air Force who was over in the war zone 2 times thus far and I also have a daughter, who is in the Army. She is currently in Iraq. It is always on my mind. What our men and women are doing isn't wrong. They find themselves in a situation doing a job that is a lot tougher than anyone could have predicted. We must continue to help this new Democracy in Iraq and at the same time develop an exit strategy because we can't be there forever. May God bless and keep our servicemen and women safe while they perform their duties. Everyone in this country owes a debt to our brave soldiers from any war. My father was at Guadelcanal and endured horrors unimaginable to the uninitiated, much like some of the troops of this war and any other war in history. What some people conveniently forget is that their protesting and badmouthing is a freedom fought for time and again in this country. Talk about irony!!! Before speaking your mind be sure to thank a veteran for the opportunity to do so. Think about it!
Again I thank you vets. You have my undying gratitude.

This stems from the way Vietnam vets were treated as monsters and pariahs when they came home. Despite the fact that they did not make the policies and many were drafted, the average soldier was blamed and targetted for the war. Now they're trying to make that distinction. "We're against the war, but we don't blame the soldiers."
I think it's good that they are making that distinction, at least you don't have to endure getting spit on (I hope) because you had the misfortune of being in the military when they went to war.
I for one respect anyone that is willing and able to serve their country. And if they are sent to wage an unpopular war, I still respect them, even more so because it was onpopular.

I support the war and the troops. Those that are against the mission but yet blab on about how they support the troops-HA! There is some lie to that, -they are just full of crap. They have no clue what it is like and all they can do is yap and misinform other idiots. I know plenty of service men and women, who hate it when Americans say "I support our troops but not the war"..blah. Then , it's obviously clear that they don't support the troops at all, because the troops support the mission.

Bert, who anwered this question previously, has no idea what he's saying. Bringing us home is the the best way to support us, he says. That's like a slap in the face. I like you have lost friends over here. By pulling us out of here before the job is done, all our brothers in arms will have died in vane. It's sad that the American majority has lost it's stomach to stand for what's right, even after things get tough. I really question if those who haven't been over here really should have a say at all.

Very good point! I support our troops & this war. You can not support one & not the other. Remeber back to the Veitnam War. The anti-war protesters, calling our troops baby-killers. The mental anguish they put on our troops was un-forgiveable. My Uncle served in the Marine Corps during Veitnam & rembered the feeling of coming home to the hate that was lashed on to him until the day he died. UNFORGIVEABLE to treat our military in this manner! They should all be deported & sent to live in a third world country, all freedom taken away!

Sir,
I'm Australian but I hope this represents some Americans.
We support the troops, you in fact, your buddies. But what we do not support is the fact that your government has sent you there, to fight an enemy that could be anywhere, anyone, anything.
There is nothing wrong in fighting for what you believe in.
There is nothing wrong for fighting for yours and your buddies survival.
There is NOTHING wrong with that!
The soldier in question most likely didn't agree with the war. He has been trained to help protect other nations/countries. Which is what he is doing!
But does he want to be in Iraq and fight an unknown enemy? Most likely not.
I support the troops. I will always support them. It's the government, the president I will never support. They will, they do not care about the troops on the ground/sea/air. All they care about is their own thought and ideas.
So to say that they don't have public support is honestly dumb. What... do they think when they get back we'll spit on them like Vietnam?!
We learnt that lesson from The Vietnam war.
LACK OF SUPPORT CAN BE FATAL!
SUPPORT THE TROOPS AS BEST AS YOU CAN!
BUT **** THE GOVERNMENT!

No it does not make sense the way you put it. As a soldier you are trained to obey orders. Those who give you the orders are responsible. As a democracy the US has elected a government who made a decision right or wrong that is your country.

Good question. It's easy to say "I support the troops." But it's also unfortunately easy to undercut your own nation's war effort.
I think these people think "war is icky." That's about as far as their thinking goes. "Gee, I wish nobody would kill anybody." This "thinking" does nobody any good. We need more real thinking.
If I don't support the mission, then I can't say I support the troops.
God bless you.

It's a bullshit liberial talking double speak. Kind of like John Kerry! I was for it before I was against it. Or was it I was against it before I was for it! They don't know what the hell they are saying . They just say something that is popular. I say let the Marines do it their way. War is hell! America needs to stop fighting wars like pansies!
