For the most part we live in a secular society so aside from the religious aspect why do non-religious people hate gays? The bible says a great many things on a great many subjects so why do people take that one issue as reason to hate? The bible says you should stone your children for disrespecting you and adultery is also addressed in a similar fashion yet today those are considered acceptable behaviors. Adultery causes far more damage to family and society then 2 single men having consensual sex. If people chose to discriminate against gays because it's mentioned in the bible then why not disrespectful children, adulters and those who takes the lords name in vain? Why is it OK to pick and choose what part of the bible you are going to follow? If you follow the bible then people should be stoning their children when they get mouthy. Why didn't Jesus at least mention something about gays if it's OK to hate them? Its not even mentioned in the 10 commandments but adultery is.

First: The Bible is full of contradictions. When you consider that it's basically a compilation of many different writings by many different people it helps put the whole thing in perspective. ie-Old Testament VS New Testament. It's enough to give you a headache.

Second: It's not "okay" for anyone to hate anybody else. Well, okay, nobody can tell anybody else what to think or feel BUT it's not okay to act upon those thoughts or feelings when it can cause any kind of harm to another person in any way. Hating someone really only hurts the "hater." They go through life letting those horrible feelings eat at them rather than enjoying life.

Third: Anyone that uses the Bible AS A WHOLE as a guide to their life is just setting themselves up for misery. Whatever happened to the Golden Rule?! One little sentence; yet it makes so much sense.

Read the Bible. Enjoy it as a work of literature, not as a rule book. It's not as though the sky opened and God threw it down saying, "Here. This is the rule book. Abide by it." HUMAN BEINGS wrote every word in the Bible. Even if the writer claims to have spoken with God, the words God supposedly spoke to them have to pass through their ears, then their brain, through their hands and onto the paper. Lots of steps for things to get muddy there.

Finally, heterosexuals don't understand homosexuals; what we cannot understand we fear. Rather than admitting they don't understand homosexuals and thus fear them, they condemn them and try and make themselves feel better by telling themselves "The Bible is on my side."

Golden Rule. It's real simple and I don't get why people ignore it.

1. It is NOT okay to hate homosexuals and anyone who does is NOT following the Bible.
2. We should NOT discriminate against homosexuals in any fashion.
3. Jesus reaffirmed the definition of adultery and the definition of marriage. If you have sex with someone (even in your mind) who is not your spouse, that is adultery.
Please read the book of Matthew for more information on this.
