Well people keep adding stuff to the bible. Like rules and stuff to live by, but were are they coming up with this stuff? Do they just think its a good idea? It seems like there are too many rules and some people tell me if you sin (even if you disrespect your parents, ect) and dont repent that you will go to hell. And its really confusing me cause I feel like i wont go to heaven because I have sinned in my life and havent repented for EVERY single one.

The Word says we have an advocate with the Father - Jesus continually cleanses us from sin by the washing of the water of His word living in us. If you have asked Christ into your heart to be your Lord and Savior trust Him to guide you into all Truth from that point. His Word is Truth and you will find your answers there. The redemptive power of Christ flows through His child like blood through the circulatory system. The only thing after you are saved that you need to consciously "repent" of is if the Holy Spirit brings something to your attention through conviction and usually He will show you in His word what is wrong. Otherwise just enjoy the relationship. God loves you far more than you could ever love Him and He knows how to keep you from falling and how to restore you if you do - simply trust Him.

You should not despair because you sound like you are sorrowful about your sinful past. The bible is the ultimate authority on life and therefore it should really be your first choice when you are looking for answers. The original law, the 10 commandments laid out the basic law for mankind to live by and most of those are still valid today. Mankind was sinful and God had a group of people that were his chosen people and no one else had Gods favor. When Jesus came, he brought a new law that offered all mankind a chance for salvation. --John 3:16. It is not enough to just have faith though, as most religions teach. You must also have works, meaning you must do Gods will and follow his commandments. Read the book of Galatians (among others) and you can get a pretty good idea of what is expected of you but you must definitely be willing to incorporate these teachings into your life.

First of all, no one is "adding to the Bible" they may be interpreting things differently then others, but there's really nothing anyone can do about it. Martin Luther started that.

That's why God setup St. Peter as the authority and leader of the Church. It makes sense that there be one universal interpretation of the scriptures. This doesn't mean one can't have personal revelation and interpretation...meant only for them. But when you take personal interpretation and make it into a religion you get all these different and confusing rules and regulations.

The Catholic Church (unlike what some will tell you) has always matained the same core teachings for 2000 years. They have never changed. I'm not talking about the structure of the mass and that type of thing...or even saying that everything they've ever done is right. But the core teaching of the church on faith and morals have never changed. She has always maintained the authority given by Christ himself and continues to this day to interpret the scripture with that same authority.

So if you're looking for a place to learn what God is saying to us and what he wants from us...start there. Do your research and you'll be amazed...

This is very logical thinking. People are adding stuff to the Bible. This is the source of much confusion. But the rules in it, many people do not even follow. And it IS a sin if you are disrespectful to your parents. But humans make many mistakes which is why you should ask God, and ONLY GOd for forgivness. Its not like anyone is asking you to repent for rach individual sin, but every night just ask God to forgive you for all the bad you have caused anyone, all the things you shoudnt have done. And ask him to protect you from the evil of the Satan.
May God bless you in all ways.

Can I suggest to you that your doubts are the product of Satan? Once you are saved, you are forgiven for all sins. That doesn't mean continue to sin. For instance, Jesus forgave the adulturess and said go now and sin no more.

Don't lose hope though, we all have struggles with that.
In Romans 7, you can see the Disciple struggle with sin when he says:
18 For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. 19For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing.

God's forgiveness is limitless. So keep the faith and continue growing under God's grace.

By the way... The Bible says that God is the same always and forever.

Throughout history people have been trying to add stuff to the Bible. The pharisees in Jesus' day did their best to add extra rules to the scriptures. Today people may do it to justify their lifestyle or to try and explain a biblical concept they don't understand. Whatever the reason is for altering the text it is not good.

The Bible talks specifically about what it takes to go to heaven. It has little to do with our ability to repent of every sin but more that we have a relationship with God and faith in Jesus.

Don't go by what "other people" say. "Other people" have been known to misinterpret what the bible says. If I repented for every single sin I've committed, I wouldn't have time to go to work, eat, sleep or anything else, half the time I sin and don't even realize I did it. God knows we're weak and we mess up a lot, He also knows we forget stuff. I really don't think you have to list every sin you ever committed, at least I seriously hope not. The point is to try to not sin, which is impossible, but trying will cut down on your list.

Have you read the very last part of the Bible (Revelation22:6) God is so big and mighty, he crated heaven and earth, do u think that he will let the Bible be changed? I dont, he has the pover to maintain the authenticity of a book. So i would not worry about the bits and bobs that have been added into the Bible if i were u.

Jesus once said that if you truesly love God, there are only 2 commandments you nees:
Love your God
Love your neighbour.

If you love God, youll have the Holy spirit with you to lead you and so you will know and have a desire to do the right things. If you do sin, which every one will, you will feel bad and have a natural feeling to say sorry to God and ask for forgiveness.

Its not what you know, but WHO you know that gets you into heaven.

I guess what I would like to tell you is that when Christians say all people are sinners its to get the notion out of our heads that if we can be good enough God will let us into heaven. The Bible say all men have sinned and come short of the glory of God. No one is worthy and that all sin is the same no big sins or small sins. just sin, but god in his infinite wisdom made a simple way for us to be washed clean from or sins and made righteous. That means all sins even the ones you may do in the future. It says by one man sin came into the world (Adam)so by one man sin may be taken from the world (Jesus). Payment or atonement was needed for sin and Jesus the only perfect man paid it when he died on the cross. Now all that's left for you to do to be cleansed from all your sins is to believe that he paid that price for you and enter into a relationship with him.

Dear Holly,

There are many individuals here in Y/A who believe that they are saved and have the "true Gospel" , but, they really do not. One cannot "accept Jesus" or "repent" or do anything to get themselves saved because that is "work." If you will read Ephesians 2:8,9 and Titus 3:5 you will clearly see that we cannot do anything to get ourselves saved. Here is the real hard part for many individuals--do you know that "faith" is also a work? See 1 Thess 1:3 and 2 Thess 1:11. Did you know that "faith" or belief is also a work? Therefore, even our "faith" cannot get us salvation. So whose faith is it then? It is the Lord Jesus Christ because He is the only one who is faithful and true. See Galatians 2:16 and 2:20 in the King James Version Bible. Also check Philippians 3:9. It is Christ's faith! These are not mental gymnastics but truth.

That is why we read that we must be clothed with Christ's righteousness in Isaiah 61:10. Salvation is completely of the LORD!.

I encourage you to read Romans 9 very carefully. There you will find that God has chosen those whom He was going to save before the foundation of the earth (Ephesians 1:3-5). These sinners that God had chosen to save are called HIs "elect". There are other names that God uses to refer to the saved also but I will not list them here. The LORD is no respector of persons so we all stand on level ground. God can save a baby who does not even talk. He can save a mentally retarded person. He cn save an old man or a young woman--He is Sovereign. The environment in which the LORD saves is the hearing of the word of God. In Romans 10:17 we read, "So then, faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God." FAITH is also a synonym for the Lord Jesus Christ (see Rev 19:11). So then, Christ cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God. Get into the Bible--read it, listen to it and pray that the Lord will have mercy on you (Lamentations 3:26).
