I think it's talking about love, how it is so strong that no one can avoid it, from irresisible and inevitable. It's also saying love will end in tragedy, hence the doom and fatality.
It could also be greed, that people want it so much that they can't resist it, and anything that powerful will only end in tears.
A generalization is the quote is talking about anything that people want so much that it will destroy them. A weakness in all humans that we can't resist or avoid.

Kind of means that there is slight feeling of death, something bad might occur, or that gloom is present. I'm not quite sure about this quote though.
