Id suggest doing some light weight lifting. If you dont have a gym, do body weight exercises, squats, leg lifts, etc.
I had/have a minor tear in the lower part of my quad. been there since i was a junior in high school. Odd thing was that it went away ONLY when I ran or worked out (mostly the running helped the best). If I stopped working out for a while the pain would just shoot all around, knee included.
So, try at least to do some miled leg workouts.
Thats my 2 cents. Hope it helps

Most Md's do not know about muscles as much as they should. Pick up a copy of The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies. Written so the average interested person can get rid of their own pain.

When I was younger, I would get leg cramps as well. My mom always told me it was "growing pains". I no longer have the problem but, if you feel like it is something serious, you should try getting a second opinion.

It is not easy to tell a patient that he has a bone infection without obvious signs (e.g swelling, bone tenderness, discharge & raised tempreture) also clear bony changes and the supporting investigations . indeed it is not uncommon for the oseomylitis (bone infection) to occure in the site of previous surgery , specially with the presence of implants. i agree that it is not a simple condition , but rarely to the degree of amputation . if the pain is mainly in the knee ,I expect that you have a sort of articular surface changes due to the previous problem .
