Well, psoriasis is a genetic condition, so your child could catch it. The good news, is the baby might not get it, and if it does, may not get it as severley as you have it. The better news is that medecine is advancing, so there will be more ways for your child to manage it during its lifetime.
Don't worry about this. You can't stop it from happening, and I am sure your baby will be nice and healthy.

Hi. Psoriasis is an inherited skin disorder. If you inherit the gene recessively you will not have physical evidence of it. If you inherit the gene dominantly you will have evidence of the disease, as you do and as I do. I don't know if genetic testing covers psoriasis yet or not. I am one of four children in my family and only I have the dominant gene, or so it seems. Both of my children were born before the gene expressed itself (what a way to say before I broke out). I believe my mother carried the gene. As you know there's no cure but there are new therapies. If your child should show signs of psoriasis take him to a dermatologist. If you happen to live near enough to a university connected hospital or medical center, that would be the best place. No possible treatment would be missed. Psoriasis is a very sad thing and of course you hope your baby won't be affected but you will love your precious little baby and the love you get back is marvelous! Go on the internet and do a search of psoriasis and infants or young children. You probably have your pediatrician chosen - be sure he/she knows about your concerns. Neither of my children had evidence of psoriasis by the way if that helps any. Have a wonderful baby and don't worry.

I had a 13 year history of psoriasis, though I was in good health otherwise. But these severe large, thick and scaly excoriated plaques on my neck, ears, trunk and limbs ruined the way I was leading my life. I would be with red, inflamed itchy skin for most part of the year and these silvery scales would seem to be erupting without any reason. To make matters worse, blisters would appear over already red and itching skin. It was living hell.
I was treated with various options but nothing seemed to be working. Some of the treatments that I underwent in this depressing period of 13 years included tar preparation, tropical steroids and anthralin. I was also given light therapy many times but everything I tried would give me temporary relief.
And soon, after a few days I would be plagued with the situation again. In one of those moments when I was completely lost I stumbled upon this website just by chance. I read it and felt that as if someone had put the story my life on this web page. I was thoroughly convinced that if ANYONE can cure me of condition, it would be you.
And was I right, or what. I started recovering within 3 days of starting this treatment. Something that had become a painful part of me for 13 years was actually getting healed! My ears are healed and my neck is smooth again!. I am a month into the treatment and I have never felt better in my life!

Hey, I understand why you are upset, but iof it is passed down it wouldn't be the worst thing. They are coming out everyday with newer medicines and ways to minimize the effects of Psoriasis. I think it's about a 30% chance if I remember correctly. If both parents have it it would be a 60% chance. Check out www.womenshelp.net for the exact percentage. It is on one of their links I belive on the home page. I know going to tanning beds for a half hour 3 times a week will also minimize the effects of psoriasis by ALOT. There are more hints on the links there.
Good Luck!

Since it is genetic it is quite possible that your baby will have it. Hopefully not. I have psoriasis and my father has psoriasis but my older sister does not. Hopefully your child won't get it but if he/she does I hope it isn't that bad! Congrats on the baby!
