Hi, I'm trying to decide between going to the two places during the first week of March. What are the differences? I'm mainly looking for nice beaches, snorkeling, and scuba diving. Also, how is the mosquito situation then? I am very allergic to them.
Thanks!
Jenny

The Virgin Islands both British and US have far better beaches because they are located more into the Caribbean Sea than Puerto Rico(PR) is. Hence calmer, warmer and 'more blue' waters. If you want to surf then I would recommed PR. For snorkeling and bathing I would recommend the Virgin Is. There is a beautiful snorkeling trail of Buck Island (about a mile from St Croix) in the US Virgin Islands and nice beaches to bathe all over. For somethign intersting and unique check out "The Baths" in the British Virgin Is. I have attached a Buck Island link and links about "The Baths" Good Luck.

PS If you are looking for a huge night life sene and a big country feel i.e. freeways and huge malls then PR is going to be a better place for you. And the mosquito factor is going to be the same in the PR, the US Virgin Islands and the British Virgin Islands

Puerto Rico for nightlife, culture, restaurants, shopping. Puerto Rico has more prettier beaches than the USVI and BVI, especially on the outer islands of Culebra and Vieques. Vieques is becoming the new hotspot for the rich to play. Just like Anguilla and St. Barts, it will become a very chic island to visit in the upcoming years , especially after the new W Hotel opens their resort there.

Go Puerto Rico is you want good beaches. Puerto Rico is great. This time of year the Mosquitos won't be too bad, but they are there. I was in the British Virgin Islands of Thanksgiving and it was great. The beaches and snorkerling are great there too! There are bugs though year round there but its not that bad. Have fun!

Go to Puerto Rico for sure! They have amazing beaches, if I were you, I would go to Culebra, you need to take a fery ride from fajardo. Go to Raices, the best restaurant in Old City of San Juan. The best area is El viejo San juan ( old city of san juan). There are many hotels like Sheraton and Milan. Very luxurious! And the best part is the clubs in Condado and in Old City of San Juan

You would be well advised to take your passport to both PR and American VI. They forgot to tell me that on my visit in October, I thought America was, well, America.
