getting it pulled is a lot worse, and more harmful to the health of your remaining teeth.

Root canal is a little bit uncomfortable, but it is nothing that anyone can't handle, unless you aren't given enough novacaine. If your dentist knows what he is doing, you shouldn't feel a thing.

I have had two root canals. Not my favorite thing to do, but it is a relief that now I can eat things without worrying about feeling pain.

It all depends if the tooth is in the front of your mouth or in the back. Root canals are not much fun but if you want to save that tooth it is the best way to go. But there is no guarantee it will last because you can still loose that tooth from bone loose or other things. Not like pulling the tooth, after it's pulled it is over except for a little pain and swelling. Then you can wear a flipper if that works for you or get a implant.Take it from me, I know how you feel about Dentist but unlike you, I work with them and I still get scared of them. If you think the cavity is to big for you to have the root canal done, get it pulled.

Dont be afraid of a root canal...they have gotten a bad rap along the way but are for the most part painless. If the tooth has died you wont feel a thing. I have had quite a few and when they determined the tooth was dead they did it without novacaine and I never felt anything. If the tooth is alive they will numb it and you wont feel anything. Many dentists will numb it either way. If you are nervous let them know..most will talk you through it and you'll see you worried for nothing. Some people have a little soreness for a couple days after ...but nothing an ibuprophen wont help..but the actual root canal procedure is generally painless.

DONT GET IT PULLED!! that will mess up things more, and potentially your other teeth will move around to the gap and become crooked! also, youll have a friggin gap there unless you get a crown or bridge or something and thats just a pain... believe me, you wont feel a thing during the procedure - ive had this done and i was pretty loopy for a few hours afterwards. the whole left side of my face was numb for the next 6 hours or so too. afterwards, try to stick to a more liquid diet for a day or two and let it heal, that helped me (the hole will be filled, dont worry, but itll be sore). get plenty of nutrients and sleep and thatll help too. if you want, take some ibuprofin or get a perscription for loritab. thosll make you numb too - careful. its nothing to be afraid of, if you think youll freak out too bad then ask to be put out - they'll probably do that anyway i think. just go in and be brave! have your mom or spouse or someone hold your hand if you want, and dont bite the dentist! i did by accident, and that was a big mistake - or no? i got more novocaine.. dont worry, it will only hurt for a day or a few at most - if it IS hurting longer, then go talk to your stupid dentist, cuz that means he f***ed up. its not a lifetime affliction, its just a pain in the butt for a couple of days, and then youll probably forget about it.
good luck! + peace

I had a root canal and I seriously did not feel a thing. The only thing that was bothersome was how long it took. I would do it again in a heartbeat since I have no pain what so ever now in that tooth. Just make sure you go to a well qualified dentist.

Some people do get "panic attack" with "getting sick". The mind keeps circling around and around, and the fear grows, all the while the body feels worse and worse. Write down you fears and your feelings. Take it with you to your next Dr's appointment. There you need to discuss how to handle the fear. This is really important, whether they have a name for your illness or not. So, get a cup, and fill it 1/2 full of a good tasting drink get a plate, put 2 soda crackers / or a piece of apple on it. Beside these set your clock. Every 10 minutes try to take 2 sips and 2 bites. .........
