If energy efficient bulbs are supposed to collectively contribute to the prevention of global warming, do you think manufacturers should be forced to only sell energy efficient bulbs, and at affordable prices?

Relax. It isn't a point of view that I want to enforce. I was just wondering how strong peoples views on energy saving is.

Let's look at it another way: would you like the government to force you to buy only energy efficient bulbs?

Another consideration is true color. Generally, fluorescent bulbs, while being more efficient, put out a greenish light, which is unpleasant, to say the least, especially when trying to view works of art. (Ever wonder why exterior shots on TV of buildings at night seem to be glowing green from the windows?)

(I am an advocate of energy-efficient bulbs, when used in the right way, and at the right times....)

Actually the wattage is the amount of electricity it uses. You bought a bulb that uses 9W but because it is super efficient it actually puts out as much light as if it were a typical 40W bulb. You can buy a up-to 50W bulb. This would be 20% brighter than the current 40W bulb.

They would sell a lot more if they were smaller. I find it difficult to have an equivalent 60watt or 100watt energy bulb without it sticking up above lampshades etc. and the smaller sizes are hard to find. Powergen had an offer for smaller ones but when they arrived, there was an apology saying sizes differed from advert, and small ones were not there. Also they have to warm up and if you need instant bright light say, on stairs, energy bulbs are useless.

There is a law going through parliament that will enforce a £60 fine for each and every old filament light bulb in your house.
The government are also introducing a zero cost on all green energy saving consumables, IE, they will all be free.

Sorry, I just woke up in the real world.

the funny thing is that people would burn more energy efficient bulbs than standard ones, thinking they're doing good so they would use more lights because they say energy efficient, which would equal to a standard light bulb

Yes I think the government should enforce everything that is going the help save our world/planet. If we have to suffer a little inconvenience then so be it.

Sure. No one persons decision seems important to them, but what we do collectively can make a huge difference.

That's exactly the situation where government needs to step in.
