Never tried it. but i have sampled Smoky Jim's. Its a bit like Jack Daniels but gave me the mother of all hangovers. I was crocked for nearly the whole weekend. Avoid!!

John Lee Bourbon might come from a personal reserve which means it is an incrediably small batch made for something or someone special and may not be widely marketed. There is a resturant in Lexington, Ky that is working on its bourbon collection. A few weeks ago I got to enjoy a very rare bourbon from the VanWinkle personal reserve that was aged 23 years. I love my bourbon. I'll have to see if I can get my hands on John Lee.

being from kentucky, i can qualify a little on this one. in all honesty, ive never tried John Lee. BUT DONT DESPAIR!! i can and do recommend Woodford Reserve. its a bit pricey but well worth it. there are several other Ky straight bourbons on the market also that deserve attention. Wild Turkey being probably the most famous(and i can see the distillery from my back yard). then there is Bufflalo Trace Distilleries in Frankfort, Four Roses also from Lawrenceburg, to name a few others. each have their own characteristics and "bite". But for John Lee, ill have to try it!!

Have never heard of it , perhaps you are thinking of Elmer T Lee which is a small batch from Buffalo Trace. Old Rip Van Winkle and Old Fitzgerald are fine bourbons to try.
