They won't work. The AE1 still uses Canon's FD lens mount system. In 1987, Canon switched to the EF (EOS) mount system and that's what they use for all of their digital SLR models, too. Adapter rings won't solve anything.

As others have said, the Minolta AF lens mount is the same as the Sony A mount. However the lens you have is only worth about 30 GBP / 50 USD. Base your dSLR purchase on your budget and how the camera feels in your hands. Are the buttons and dials in the right place? Do you like the menu system? All dSLRs take excellent pictures, so brand is irrelevant. Don't base your dSLR purchase on a cheap lens, new lenses are far superior to that old Sigma. Having said all that, I am a Sony user (with great old Minolta and Sigma glass) and can highly recommend the Sony range, but you MUST go and hold all brands of camera.

Yes. All Canon lenses will work with the newer dSLRs. Just like Nikon.
