I take my dog bike riding with me, but she is wearing sores on the pads on her feet. I am sure it is from the concrete. I cannot avoid it because I live in south Austin and concrete is practically everywhere. I love taking her on bike rides and she loves it too. I don't want to stop taking her because she loves to run. What can i do about her paws. Should I just take it easy on her so that they can heal over each time she develops the sores or is there something I can do?

Geez, People!!!
Some of you guys think I slave drive my dog or something.
To clarify for those as*holes that want to assume I am a bad owner:
I give her regular breaks
I watch her carefully
I do not go too fast as to pull her along
I do keep a water bottle on my bike jacka*s (it is a bike afterall) so she gets water on her breaks.

Hello, fellow Texan. Vets sell creams that can help heal paws. You can also buy creams that will help strengthen the pads of your dog's feet. I hate to tell you this but mostly you just need to slow down. Pavement is only good on a dog's feet to a certain extent. It helps wear down their claws but it does take a toll on the pads. Petco And PetSmart both sell doggy shoes. You should also try looking into those.

I had this problem with a dog I used to have. When that would happen to his paw pads I would put a little antibiotic ointment or vaseline on them. I had to cut back on bike/runs with him. I only did it a couple of times a week after his pads were getting sore. Give her a break in between runs, for her sake. Don't let them start to bleed either. It will be more painful for her to even walk let alone run on concrete with such sore pads. If you think she needs to see a vet, then it would be a good idea to do so. I hope this helps and I hope that your dog will feel better soon.

There is a cream they have for dogs and cats. You can find it at a local pet store. You just rub it on the bottom of their paws. It actually soothes their paws. And protects them from hard concrete are pebbles. Also protects against hot concrete. I live in Houston so of course my dogs feet are going to get burnt on the cement. It doesn't stain furniture or carpets either.

Take her to the vet for the sores. To protect them you could probably get some shoes like sled dogs have or rubber booties. Definitely don't stop taking her, it is good for both of you. Just make sure your dog is not too tired and is getting fed enough. Hope she feels better!

I think that they do make little doggy shoes for that. I have a friend who travels to Maine and goes hiking with his dog and he has these little dog sport bootie things....I am not sure where to find them, but I know I saw them before. Check out some pet stores and google that to find out more about that....I am sure that would help in your dog's case.

Use bag balm in between runs & run her less often & for shorter distances.
Just because she loves it doesn't mean it's good for her.
Dogs also love chasing cars - also not good for them.
You must be smarter than the dog. Shorten up the length & frequency of the runs.

well you might try getting her some booties if she will wear them. If not, I guess the only thing you can do is have her take a break between times so that she doesn't make them sore.

Try Bag Balm for the sores, and then maybe get some boots for her to wear when you run.

Get her little dog booties (dog shoes). A friend of mine had a set for his dog to protect it from the burrs he had in his field.

Three things,
1. Buy her those doggy shoes
or
2. See a vet
or
3. Buy cream for her.
