One day my speakers made a popping sound and now they don't work. I hooked up another speaker but now there is no sound at all. I even tried my stereo speakers that I know do work. I've tried the ctrl panel/sounds and even adjusting the volume ctrl. Could it be that the sound card or plug in my tower burned out?

It could be the sound card or it could be a driver conflict.
Did the problem coincide with the installation of a program or another piece of hardware?
I would try re-installing drivers for the sound card from the manufacturer's website.
Next, I would go into the device manager list and remove the sound card and let the computer find it again upon rebotting. You also may notice a conflict in the list at that point from an icon over the device.
To get to the device manager, right-click on the "my computer" icon and left-click on properties.
Last, I would try to secure another sound card from someone and try that.

I would go with the sound card has died...... happened to me a couple months back....... but first check to make sure your speakers haven't come unplugged.

I would say it's your sound card. Just buy a new one and replace it.

It could be that you blew them out. Do you listen to your music super loud? Then you probably blew them out. Or it could be that your sound card blew out.....
