If you head over to somewhere like circuit city, you can tell them what kind of camera you had before, what you use it for, what kind of features you are looking for...the people there can really give you some good advice.

Here is my history with Digital Cameras:
1) Kodak CX4210 2MP - OK
2) Fuji S7000 6MP - Very Good Camera
3) Fuji S9500 9MP - Miserable Camera
4) Nikon D50 6MP - Brilliant Camera
5) Nikon D80 10MP - Easily the best of the lot

Don't waste the money I did - save up for the Nikon D80, you honestly will not believe the difference. The creative possibilities are endless with an SLR and prices are coming down all the time. Don't worry about memory card compatibility as they are getting cheaper all the time too, and the D80 uses SD cards which are about the cheapest of the lot.

Looking at your photography you seem to be ready for an SLR.

I would be seriously interested in trading unedited images of the Fujis to see whether yours is better than mine. On mine the distant detail turns into blocks of color losing resolution. After the S7000 I was very disappointed.

Before attending photography school I had a Fuiji FinePix s7000 prosumer camera. I was very happy to move to a Canon D60. It was a very seamless move. The real question is what brand is easier for you, as they all have their benefits and downsides. I took a look at your photostream, and I would say that you don't need more than a Canon 350 right now. Move up slowly.

I love the Canon 30D. I would definantly go to the SLR route. I've been using SLR for abour 8 years or so. At work we have a twin lens but I use SLR for my weddings and portraits. IF you go to Nikon, they have great lenses with VR (vibration reduction). Which is great to use with SLR, especially if you are shooting still portraits, landscapes and macros. I looked at your pics, you've got a pretty good eye, just try to expand your horizons. I say focus on one area of photographys (portraits, sports, macros/landscapes ...etc) If you pick one area you'll have a focus but endless options.

There are many forums and magazines out there. Just start reading and looking at reviews. onsumer digest also reviews the cameras and lets you know that issues and such that can arrise from certain ones, kinda like they do for cars. lol! Anyways, I wish you the best of luck and you can e-mail me anytime you want if you have questions.

Correction to teef ..... the D80 uses a CF (compact flash) card!
