Atheism is a religion. Whether the atheists want to admit it or not. Religion in its simplest terms is your belief system. If your belief system includes no belief in God, then that is your religion.

First of all, I disagree with whoever said atheism is a philosophy. Secondly, even if it was a philosophy, there's a difference between philosophy and religion. Atheism isn't a religion just like the lack of a belief in Santa Clause isn't a religion.

Your not very intelligent my friend at all in any way what so ever, zip, you have no reasoning power in you obviously, sorry but its true, you don't see reality in front of your face, religion is about a relationship with God.atheists don't believe in a God,so they dont have a religion, why do you concern yourself with non religious matters anyway?your being lead down a dark road by the devil. I have a philosophy of my being a Bigfoot creature that doesn't believe in humans ha ha,that your all an illusion, ha ha.that's not a religion. Its a stupid philosophy.what if I had a religion of the great and powerful Yeti Creatures.and people dont belive me about my religion.or they forming a religion because they doubt me? NO, they simply know I am full of it.
philosophy is just what its is ,a philosophy .It could be about anything at all,its a formation of certain thought patterns formed into a certain level of reasoning.even if it makes no sense,
leave off the questions about non blievers or you will get caught up in their weirdness.ask the spirit of God into you and you wont need to make all these mistakes, you doing, right now, give yourself totally to the holy spirit of God,and all will be well. Peace

Atheism isn't a philosophy or a religion. It's lack of belief in god(s). As far as I'm aware, Buddhism is a religion but Buddhists don't believe in God. How could they belong to two religions - atheism and Buddhism - simultaneously?

A religion is characterized by:
* A core and agreed set of beliefs, often based around a sacred text
* An agreed set of rituals, clothes, eating habits, odd movements with hands and eyes
* An obvious figurehead leader whose teachings are taken to be of higher value than anyone else.
* A location at which the relgious gather to enact these rituals, often very regularly (church, mosque, etc)
* A set of arbitrary laws/rules that people outside of the religion seem to function perfectly well without.
To say nothing of an assumed supernatural being at the heart of most religions, the absence of which marks atheism most starkly.
None of these apply to atheism. All of these apply to religion, and without them, a religion wouldn't be a religion. Your argument is rendered TOSS.

Religion:
Belief in and reverence for a supernatural power or powers regarded as creator and governor of the universe.
A personal or institutionalized system grounded in such belief and worship.
No where does an Atheist fit into that definition.

Atheism is the lack of belief in god and lack of religion; it is not an assertion that god cannot exist or does not. It is just a point of view based on the evidence at hand.

You have to play word games to debate that.
I will talk about why I think it isn't a religion:
-it's not organized.
-there are no churches or gatherings
-there is no worship
-atheists hold many different beliefs, you'd be hard pressed to find two atheists that have the same beliefs
-there's no central dogma besides "no god"
.

Religions have a figure head to worship. Atheism does not, that is why it is not a religion- there is nothing to worship.

Believing there is no creator is different than not believing there is a creator. It is possible to hold no belief whatsoever in regard to God, hence no faith.
