Catholic Tradition states that Jesus appeared to His mother Mary first but the Gospel of Mark (believed to be written at a later date) states that Mary Magdalene was first appeared to. This is for a school assignement graded by the Religion Teacher at my Catholic School. Please reply soon!!!

This is for a Catholic School assignment and if there are any Catholic Priests, Deacons, Bishops, teachers or theologins ect... please help and give a spirtual point of view. This assignment is due tomarrow and I have received many different sides. it is for a story we are writing and must go by Catholic Church Teachings. So don't take anything from a Bible written after 100ad such as the Bible from Luther

My dear, I'm not Catholic, but if it is a Catholic assignment then your best bet would be to give a Catholic answer. You are always safe going with Mother Mary in the Catholic Church.

I believe the two Marys were Mary Magdalene and Mary the sister of Martha.
Had it been Mary the mother of Jesus, I don't think scripture would call her the other Mary.

The Bible clearly states Mary Magdalene. No other answer can be scripturally backed.

Just write that - give the catholic traditional view and the reasons why if you know them and then state that Mark says something different, quote your references and wallah a concientious assignment.

There is never such a thing as a wrong answer with evidence.

.if he had appeared to his mother, he would not have addressed her as "Mary",,,,,

if it was his mother, he would have said "mother or mom"
