I get millions of those flashes all the time mostly when my eyes are closed ad I don't mean to worry you but I'm blind and that's what I seen before I lost my vision so you should go see an optomatrist and if they can't see anything wrong get a seccond opinion cuz it might be a visual problem, probably not the same as mine but something

I get the 'wavy lines', but not the heatwave 'thing'.Mine are usually the shape of a V, and they 'shake' slightly. I went straight to my local e.n.t. infirmary and was examined for approx 1 hour.He told me i could of had a 'slight stroke' or a migraine, but probably the migraine (imagine how I felt)! Evidently there are approx 53 types of migraine with only half of these with the accompanying headache.I don't get the headache with mine. You really must go and get checked out though.Good luck.

There could be many reasons, so do see your doctor.

I started getting flashing lights round the edge of my eyes and my Doctor said it was a form of migraine but don't take that as being the same for you!

It's usually with a lot of light before you close your eyes. If you look at bright things and then close your eyes, you get flashes. It happens to me but I'm use to it now!

Flashes and spots of light in your eyes when closed are often due to having been exposed to bright lights or sunshine. Try changing the bulbs to a lesser wattage and resting your eyes in a more dimly lit room before you go to bed. If things persist visit your optician.

A friend of mine experienced similar flashes in his eyes and was diagnosed with a detached retina. Im not meaning to worry you, but you should take a trip to the opticians and get your eyes checked out just in case. Its probably nothing, but get it checked!!

Sounds like it could be the onset of a migraine. My husband calls this his "squiggly eyes" thing. Do you get any tunnel vision, limited peripheral vision at all? Nonetheless, I would get it checked out with your GP asap.

I had flashes in one eye after getting hit in that eye. It was a retinal tear that required cryosurgery (non-invasive, but painful). But that was with my eyes open also. It could be a number of things.
