on a stock 93 grand cherokee, if i wanted to put some 31s on it would i need a lift kit and if so.. how high? and at what height would i need to do maijor modifications?

31's should fit at a stock height but will not allow much room for flex. As long as you don't bounce it too hard or crawl over rocks, you'll be fine. If you want 32's you'll need to lift it 3 inches. Once you go for 33s though, you'll need to get into 5-6 inch lifts and fender trimming. Go here and it'll tell you all about this...

Best way to solve that problem is go to your local off road shop and talk to them. Too many variables involved. Like how wide are the tires you are planning on putting on it no only just the diameter of the tires. and what type of rims you are getting. etc.
