you can get a new Sport Pilot license for around 3 K
private license and you will be between 5-8 K depending on how fast you learn,
its better to do it in a short a time as possible, ( less time relearning ) if you take a break. to be the most cost effective,
17 to get your private.
16 to solo, so you can surely start your lessons now,
Do some ground work first, I have seen literally hundreds of people start flight training, only to quit because they couldnt pass the written.
and nearly as many pass the written only to quit because stalls simply scared them half to death.
( medical ) you need that before you can start anyway.

good luck, and YES its worth it

It depends on the plane you learn in, your instructor, how fast you can learn, and how often you can fly. It will cost you anywhere from $2500 (very lowball estimate) to $6000 for a private pilot's license. The average is probably around $4000.

Your old enough now. And I got my private for around $5,000 two years ago. $85 /hr for the plane and $35 /hr for the instructor. The best thing would be to call a local airport that provides flight lessons and ask them, rates very a bit from place to place and depending on the type and how old the aircraft you are renting is.

I work at a University that gives Bachelors degrees as well as the flight training... Four years here runs about $200K. If you go to your local little rinky-dink airport, you can get trained for a few grand for your Private license.

Part of that answer will depend upon where you are, but I got my license for about $2500. That was pre-911, so I don't know if there are additional fees now associated with security or not.

Figure to spend about $5500.

Normally, you can put 1/3 down and pay the rest as you go.

Just do it.
