7-9 inch nails were placed between the bones of the forearm and the small bones of the hands. A nail placed at this point would sever the largest nerve in the hand, causing severe burning pain and permanent paralysis of the hand. A nail was also placed in the feet. Having been pinned to the cross with the knees flexed at about 45 degrees, the victim must bear his weight with the muscles of the thigh. (try to stand with your knees flexed at 45 degrees for 5 minutes.) As the strength of the legs gives out, the weight of the body is borne by the the arms and shoulders, within a few minutes the whole arm becomes dislocated, as a result, considerable body weight is transferred to the chest, this causes breathing to become difficult. In order to exhale the victim must push down on his weakening feet to allow the rib muscles to relax. CO2 begins to rise. Over a period of several hours the combination of collapsing lungs, failing heart, and dehydration, the victim slowly suffocates to death.

well, if he really was god then i'm sure it's nothing he couldn't handle. plenty of people have been through way worse without the benefit of having super powers.

No one pays for my (alledged) sins but me.. nor did i ever ask anyone too.. I'm not an Xtian.. nor do I ever care to be..
I fully know what crusifixition involves BTW.. i've read yer book (several english translations in fact and a few others.. which I'll bet is more than you have??)
Umm leave me out of it I'm strictly a Pagan OK? is that to much to ask? its NOT your job to save my soul or condem it.. if you read yer own book you would know that.. in fact I might not even have a soul to save if you could read... (I have no need of a soul.. your question is insulting and presumptious...)
and 7-9 inch nails? SHEESH iron was at a premium.. no one would waste a nail in that dimension on a human for a crucifixation.. sheesh where do you get yer history from dude? Max 5 inches.. and that would be pushing it...

Have you heard of the Inquisition?? It ran for centuries in the name of Christ; alleged heretics (anyone who did not conform to the narrow accepted theology) were arrested (often upon little more than the word of a disgruntled neighbor, often on spurious charges), tortured in order that they confess to the charges, and when (during the application of the hideous tools of the trade), under the effects of unbearable pain, they complied and confessed, they were condemned to be executed, often by burning alive at the stake. The details of the evil perpetrated by the Inquisition are too terrible to relate here, but they were performed in the name of Christ by Christians. How can you rationalize such behavior??

Listen, if you are to be believed, your god plans everything out. So Jesus knew what was coming. He also knew he wasn't going to die, and would then go and take his place as vice-president for life in the family business. This, of course, as a supernatural being who could walk on water, perform molecular transformations, and raise the dead. I have a feeling that a bit of pain management would not have been beyond him. What sacrifice?
Now, what about all the heretics burned alive for your god? How did they feel?

I bet everytime you think about it, you love Christ even more for what he did. I wish more people would think about how gruesome it was what Jesus went through! All so we could have a chance to be forgiven for being the horrible people we can sometimes be. I love God and Im proud to worship him and I cant wait to be with him! I feel so bad that Jesus went through all that for me. Im not even worthy of his awesome love for me but he loves me anyway! He loves even the people that hate him, imagine that. He is that awesome and perfect! Praise God!

Sounds like it's easier than being tortured and burnt alive at the stake.

That's barely scraping the surface of the atonement, Christ's suffering was "infinite and eternal" meaning it was far more intense than anything any other crucifixion victim would have also felt.
Thanks

It is a decidedly nasty way to die. The ancients did believe in making punishment as unpleasant as possible.

Yes I knew this. Praise God He is alive forever more and sits at the right hand of His Father God.
