There were a number of reasons why the Supra was killed off in the USA
1. The car was approaching a 60K price tag and Toyota felt no one in their right mind would purchase a Toy for 60K when they could have gotten a Lexus SC300 for under forty.
2 The car with twin turbos was ridiculously fast and thereby uninsurancable to most people.
3. The car did not meet it's original intent to be an entry level competitor to the 300ZX.
Just an FYI
Motor Trend & Car & Driver are calling the Lexus IS series as the next Supra.

haha retards. In 1998, Toyota ceased to import the cars to the U.S. from Japan, although the car was last sold in Canada in 1995. They stopped production of the car altogether in August 2002 due to new emission standards coming into effect in 2003. The Supra is one of the heaviest 2-door Japanese sports cars, however still slightly lighter than the Nissan R33 and R34 Skyline GTRs to which the Supra is traditionally a rival in its home country. It's crazy how much hp you can kick out a Supra.

They weren't selling enough of them. It was around the time SUVs were on the rise, a lot of sports cars died off.
Also, the things were really expensive at the end. The 300ZX and RX-7 met their ends for the same reason.

Not too many people were purchasing them because.
The cars were extremely light and powerful so they were fast! This meant few insurance companies would insure them for a price people could afford.
