Thanks for the replies so far... Will go into a bit more detail...

In the fuse box, there are two wires running between the side light fuses and the main beam fuses (or so that's what i think) They are positions 3 & 8 with wires running to 15 and 17 respectively.

When you turn the lights switch to position 1 (side lights) no lights come on (not sure about dashboard lights, will need to check) When you turn to main lights, side lights come on (probably due to the linking wires between 17&8 and 15&3 in the fuse box)

The fuses look okay (have not tested with a circuit tester but the wires do not look burnt out)

Is there a fuse in the auxiliary fuse box (in bonnet) that I need to check?

Have been using an N reg Fiesta Haynes manual to see if that helps in any way.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Yeah had the same problem in a F-250 it turned out to be the light switch. The give away was because the dash lights did not work either.

As usual check the fuse first. It if is blown then a good place to start in your tail lights. Especially if it has been used for towing and has at one time been wired to trailer lights. I am forever forgetting to unplug boat trailer when launching boat and blowing fuses. And rubbing wires bare when jack knife backing into the drive way.

OEM(dealer) is the best way to go, but pricey. If you have sticker shock then, I would check E-bay as there are a lot of cheap after market light covers available there. If that's still too expensive, go to the local junk yard/pick a part place, and go hunting for it. This proceedure is hit and miss.
