in the end people who want to be an ultimate fighter arent violent evil bloodthirsty brutes............i mean this for any brand of fullcontact fighting....martial arts is a way of finding ones true expression of his or her self using their own body as the stage for displaying that expression

because some people are just ignorant. mma today has its roots in an old greek olympic game pankration which often resulted in one's death also it has its roots in no holds barred and the mainstream media also hypes up the underground aspect(fight club, bloodsport etc..)

another thing is people see people fighting and are like omg that guy is goin to die some politician called it human cockfighting away ago but i fail to see the similarities roosters are forced to fight...mma fighters are not, rooster when enticed to fight isnt isnt for sport its for self defense/combat often resulting in serious injuries or even death; mma fighters have a rational brain and are fighting for sport (like a boxer) not to kill.

the 1st few ufc didnt have many rules(despite what people think it did have a few) but now many rules, relugations, and weight classes are added to ensure the most amount of safety to the fighters but like any contact sport yea someone could get hurt

once again people just see someone getting punched or choked etc...and assume its so barbaric without knowing much about it. like idunno if it is still true but at least for a great period of time there has been no fatal injuries in a sanctioned mma match in north america

once two people against there will is forced to fight to their death in mma or the rules are unfair that someone is almost guarnteed to get seriously hurt then people need to get off mma back and if they dont like it then dont watch it

The people who are trying to ban it are the ones who don't actually watch it. they think it is the UFC of 1993 where there were no rules at all. It also looks vastly different than what most consider martial arts, they expect to see little japanese men in Gi's screaming, this is more a sport than traditional martial arts. Until politicians stop watching the old UFC clips and start seeing what it has become then it will take awhile for MMA to be totally legal in all 50 states. Until then, we will have to deal with the comparisions of MMA to boxing and pro wrestling and bareknuckle brawls. Off topic, there was an editorial in a big newspaper at least a year or so ago, with the author citing how horrible UFC was, calling it bareknuckle slugfests with fat steroided up men. Funny thing was the picture accompanying the article was of two current UFC fighters, wearing MMA gloves and clearly not bareknucle.

martial arts is the art of defense not expression ... your confused with dance!

UFC fighters are true martial artist who know the meaning of dedication and simply love the sport. They want to be the best at what they do. The sport is based in "reality" and its not new at all its just evolved. It cant evolve with out being TESTED and thats where the cage/ring comes in. most people who dont care to understand it are too lazy to learn about it in the first place and the ones who want to ban it are the liberal democrates that pretty much screwing up this country bit by bit.

I have never watched it myself but...

From the posts I've seen on this board it probably has something to do with mis-information. The martial arts have not been around for thousands of years just to teach someone how to bash an opponant's head in!

Teaching martial arts to people who watch that crap will be much more difficult because the first thing that a student has to do is to un-learn everything that they got from UFC.

I take you point and I myself get excited about UFC fights ... but... come on.... stamping with force on the opponent's face ??????? Is that sport ? It was a great fight between Brazil's Anderson Silva and that other guy called Lutter... but... elbowing the opponent on the face ?? Repeatedly ? That has got to be wrong. But I am as guilty as anyone else for enjoying the fights. One of these days one of them will DIE in the ring !!!

People want to ban NFL football. American's have a right to their opinion. I agree that they should just choose not to watch. But this is the same country that had MacDonalds remove the 'Super Size' because people couldn't just not order it.

We live in a society that believes "If I don't like it, nobody should have it". What I don't like is that you have to pay to advertise, but protesting gets free media attention.
