That is pathetic. I don't blink an eye when my kids are sick like that.

Gargle with salt water, half a spoon in a warm glass of water. (Inhale some of that up your nasal passages too, it will shrink and disinfect.) Drink tea with honey. If it's just a virus it will get better on it's own and nothing the doctor can do.

Antibiotics don't help a virus either, so I know you are miserable but wait it out another day or two.

Whooping cough is something you do have to be concerned about. It hits your windpipe and you make a "whooping" sound when you catch your breath in between coughing, kind of like a seal. That can be serious and you can take steroid puffers to help with that.

Put some Vicks vaporub in a pot of boiled water, put a towel over your head and inhale the steam. Take it off the burner though or you will scald your nasal passages.

This might help open up your airways and calm them. Stay warm and cuddled in bed and eat lots of chicken soup, it really does help.

If you get a fever, you should insist on going in.

I wonder how old you are. It could be that you have a viral infection that's been going around in the midwest - and all around the country by now. It raged through our house with a fever, cough, headache, throat pain. It was really very uncomfortable and it lasted almost 2 weeks. You have unlimited access to information on the internet and you can locate websites and/or phone numbers or local health departments or nurse lines. Tell them your symptoms, write them down before you call, take your temperature and have that ready. Then ask if you should be seen by a doctor and then listen to what they say. Are you sick often? Do you ever fake sickness? There are parents in this world who do not take care of their children - that is a fact. There are also many children (young and old) who exaggerate a lot and frequently. You know where you fit between these two extremes. Have you missed school? We have a rule, no fever no stay home. Its right 99% of the time. Check out some local information sources and if there's a real concern present that information to your parents in a calm, mature way. Financial concerns are very real but in just about every community there are alternatives to paying to see the doctor to get medical care - if that's an issue at your house. Take good care. Give your parents a break. Get the information and go from there.

At first maybe you could try things to help yourself other than going to the doctor. Try some kind of warm tea with honey to try and soothe your throat. There are some cough medicines that you can get over the counter....like, Halls drops and whatnot. Maybe try those methods (and during that time let your parents know you're trying those to help your cold or whatever...but don't bring up the doctor...just drop that idea). And then if the tea and Halls (which I'm pretty sure you can get for a sore throat and coughing)...doesn't work, talk to your parents and try again to get them to take you.

Or by pass all that and go to a free clinic or open clinic. I don't know how old you are or what your financial situation is, but some clinics are for people that don't have much income, so you can go there and be seen for a not so huge fee.

The cough is what I'd be concerned about, especially if you've had it for a long time...could mean something more serious than a cold or the flu.

Do you all have insurance? How old are you? You need to express to them if you feel like there is more going on. They may also be fearful of finding out there's more wrong as well. There are usually local clinics in each city if you are uninsured that will see you. You may have to get a ride by a family member or friend if your parents still refuse to take you so you can get better.

my little sister (who is actually not so little, shes 18) lives with me and did the exact same thing you did. But we couldnt take her to the doctor because of financial restraints. However, she did (as you will) get better on her own. You just have to make sure to eat healthy and sleep well. Drink lots of OJ and take vitamins. Theres no better cure than that! It does help to have sore throat relief, so if your parents still refuse to take you, I would at least have them understand that you hurt alot and they should, at the very least, give you cough drops or over the counter meds. Hope you feel better soon!

What age are u? Could you not make an appointment and go with someone else like your auntie or a friends mum? I dont know why your parents would be so reluctant to take you, maybe they think your exaggerating, explain to them that you are in pain and think it would be best to get it checked out and maybe they'll take you seriously.

Why don't you call the doctor yourself and make an appointment, then your parents have to take you. Take the initiative if they don't believe you. Maybe talk to the school nurse and make her give your parents a note to do so.

hilarious.
1. Either your parents hate you, and they want you to die. That may be one reason they wont take you to the doctor. You can either:
Just give up and die (like they want you to)
Just take their car and drive to the hospital. They won't notice.

2. Maybe their telling the truth. Maybe that know your strong and you can take it. Then you:
Listen to them and be a beast.
Take their car.

3. No health insurance? Maybe that's why. You're parents can't afford for you to go to the doctor. Then you should:
Try to deal with it and be a beast.
Take their car to the insurance company, get the insurance, and then drive to the hospital.

4. Their just being retarded. Then you should:
Tell them ur dying and if they don't take you to the doctors, you're going to die (prove if they want you to die)
Ask them nicely and tell them you're not going to heal.
Pick a fight to prove with them with "aggressive negotiation" to take you to the doctor.

5. Get some medicine

I would suggest 5 for the least violent way.

Tell your school nurse that they refuse! Something could be really wrong and they can get in big trouble. It's their responsibility to keep you healthy. Maybe they are uninsured and can't afford it, but there are programs such as CHIP and Medicaid for kids.

They might thing that your are constantly complaining about something simple as a cold...everyone gets colds and if you go to the doctor they will only tell you to go home and rest. if you are really sick maybe you should try going to your school nurse who can determine if you really are sick.
