I keep reading yahoo answers on people interested in this field. Does it pay good? I personally find it boring....but my friend wants to be one. I hope he makes it....I hear school is very competitive though.

The starting salary for a PharmD (Doctor of Pharmacy) is $100,000. That's a pretty big incentive. Plus,. you can finish your Pharm D in six years, as opposed to a M.D that requires 8 years plus a post-graduate training of 3 -8 years.

Some people consider the idea of being a community pharmacist (in a neighborhood drugstore) boring, but some pharamcists like to interact with the customers, and they like running the store as a business - if you have a successfull pharmacy you can make a LOT more than $100K.
But many pharmacists work in research in hospitals, medical companies, etc, and many work in hospitals as clinical pharmacists, helping MDs work out complicated drug plans for very sick patients. Those jobs are quite different from a drugstore.

That's the upside. The downside is, to be a pharmacist you have to get into pharmacy school - that's very competitive. According to an article I read in our paper, the local school rejected over 90% of the applicants this year. That's tougher than most Ivies.
And you have to take some really hard collegge courses, like organic chemistry and medicinal chemistry. You have to work your butt off to pass those courses.

The demand for pharmacists is there and the pay is close to $100,000-in some jobs it easily exceeds $125,000.

It pays well. When I was in college, pharm reps came to campus and basically pillaged the biochem students. It was terrible.

Well, I doubt everyone wants to be one. You sound like you don't. I don't. If you think it's boring, probably not a good choice for you.
