O.k. I know that I SHOULD take my dog on a walk. I live in Minneapolis. The wind chill is negative here and that is more hazardous to my dog then the treadmill.

You should never put a dog on a treadmill. They can get hurt, and it is much harder for them to get off then it is for humans, so if your dog is having trouble keeping up, there is no way for her to safely stop. There's not much else you can do to walk her if you're worried about the windchill. You could get her a thick jacket and even dog boots if you think she'll wear them (but most dogs, in my experience, hate them). Also, if you have access to stairs where you live that she could use, you could run her up and down the stairs, which is good exercise for you and her. Hope this helps!

Tie a leash to the bar and hook it to your dog. When the dog feels the tension on the leash it will walk on the treadmill. It might take a while for it to get used to it so take it slow. Don't make it go really fast the first time it hops on it. Remember to only let her walk for five minutes or so the first time and gradually increase! Hope this helps!

You shouldn't be putting the dog on the treadmill. She could hurt herself, treadmills are for humans not dogs.

Get a lead and take her out. They don't need a walk for the physical exercise, although that is the most important, they also should get out in the air, go to toilet, and be able to sniff and enjoy the enviroment.

I know this won't get best answer because you won't like this response but please listen to it. You shouldn't be using a treadmill to exercise your dog. How is she supposed to tell you she's worn out and wants to get off the treadmill? Or even understand what she's supposed to do. It's dangerous and she may fall off the back because she won't realise what it does. Or she'll get so worn out because she can't stop she'll have a heart attack or some other medical problem.

A walk outside is one of the best things in life for a dog, i can't imagine depriving my dogs of their favourite thing in life, they don't exactly ask for much!

Walk slowly on the treadmill with your dog on a leash. If it's manual then you will have to walk with her, but if it's electric then you can leave her on it after she has learned to walk on it. If it is wide enough, get the dog to heel alongside you, but if not then let them walk behind you. Start at a pace that the dog would walk at naturally, but you can move up to a jog later on. One reason dogs won't walk is it's too slow for them so they stop and it keeps going. Keep the dog walking beside you, and if she doesn't, let her fall off (but make sure you have everything cleared from around the treadmill). She will learn to stay on, my little dog would do that.

Put a leash on it, and stand in front of it, behind the front of the treadmill, and bait it with a snack that it will really really want.. like hot dogs, ham or cheese. Turn the treadmill on slowly and eventually the dog will learn and won't need to be held in place.

Have you checked if your dog has arthritis? The area you live in is cold, since dogs can not tells us, "I cant do this, or I am afraid." you can show your dog how to do it, talk while you are showing them over and over, some learn easy some take several time then do it with your dog. My thought is check with you vet just to be sure, and the treadmill idea is great.

commence the treadmill off as sluggish as you likely can and velocity it up very slowly. The canine are not to any extent further particular what you pick them to do. supply them time, they receives used to it. also, do not leae your canine on the treadmill without you being interior the room with them. in the adventure that they stumble and free their footing and think ofyou've got were given them on a leash, they could choke. stay with them even as on the treadmill.

Walk her in the cold! She and you will burn more calories by trying to keep warm. Walking on a treadmill is NO fun.
