It's my first day of highschool tommorow (i live in nz). I got these big red spots around my arms the other day and I went to the doctors. The doctor said I have 'hand, foot and mouth disease'. He said I should not be at school for the next 7-10 days.
But my parents still want me to go because it's my first day.
What do I do? I could spread this sickness everywhere!!

This is not 'foot and mouth' disease which is present in cows.. its 'hand, foot and mouth' disease. They're very different.

Yes, you could, and probably would. Your parents should obtain a note from the doctor about your condition. They should bring it to school and present it to the school authorities. YOU SHOULDN'T GO TO SCHOOL!!!! You can start an epidemic. You are a health hazard at this time and if authorities find out that you went to school despite your doctor's orders to stay home, you and your family could get in trouble.

Tell your parents to talk to your doctor so he/she can tell them how contagious this is. You should also get a doctors not to bring to school. You are right you should definitely not go to school. Missing the first day may suck but at least you wont spread the disease or be poked fun at because if it, kids can be cruel.

Call the Doctor's office an have them call the school and then make arrangements for someone to bring your work to you from school....your parents are really that stubborn?! if you're contagious, your parents could be held liable if anyone else gets the sickness...Doctor's orders are Doctor's orders....they need to heed to them.

hmmm this is a tough one......hopefully you have a school nurse or someone to talk to .....do you have a note from the doctor? i would get in touch with the school nurse or principal before your first class and tell them. if you do have hand, foot and mouth disease it is contagious and you should not be in school. not sure what your parents are thinking ???

Did he give you a medical certificate for school? Ring him and ask for one if he didn't. Try ringing the school to ask their opinion on the matter, 'I have this disease, should I be at school?' I bet they say no. Not much happens on the first day. I'm in NZ too but not in school =)

ok... for SURE listen to the doctor... you have to make sure you're not sick before you start school. that would be torture for a first day. does it really matter if you start a week later?? i would think not. just call into school and tell them you wont be starting until next week. hope you feel better soon!

if you have the disease then you would have been hospitalized and in quarantine,we know all about it in the UK,animals have been put down because of it,say this for you good laugh,if you have the human equivalent then get your death bed ready as many folks have not survived,commonly called mad cow disease in the UK.

really i think you should tell your parents that the doctor told me to saty home. if tht doesnt work then i would call the doctor or even teh school and tell them/doc. the problem. if school telles you to saty home then do it. good luck

go to school!
when you get there, tell your teacher that you dont feel well and that you need to go see the nurse.
tell the nurse you dont feel well
and show the nurse the spots that you have.
The nurse will CALL your parents and give them a stern lecture.

yea. just go to schoool and hide out in an alley or something until your parents leave and then go back in the house. mmmkkk? or just tell them u will get everyone sick and they will die. too da loo!
