Want to deduct the moving expenses in 2006, but house didn't sell, so hopefully will in 2007. If so the household goods are sent, but can one then deduct them in 2007 if already took the other moving expenses in 2006?

Thanks

Expenses for 2006 were paid in 2006.

It depends on when the expenses are paid, not when the expenses are incurred. If they were paid in 2007, then you deduct them on your 2007 return.

The IRS is aware that some people may move over the course of two years (a move that happens at the end of the year), so you can deduct moving expenses in both 2006 and 2007 for the same move. Again, you would deduct the moving expenses you paid in 2006 on your 2006 return, and your 2007 expenses would be deducted on your 2007 return.

Claim the expenses paid in 2006 on your 2006 return and those paid in 2007 on your 2007 return.
