after i eat shrimp, i get this strong after taste in the back of my throat, sort of feels like its itching... as far as i can remember i've always felt this after taste after eating shrimp, but for some reason i commented on it to my gf and she thinks its an allergy reaction - but i don't 'blow up' or have problems breathing,,, its just that strong after taste that feels like an itch... anyone have a clue as to what it might be and why?????

That's an allergy. A very mild one. Not all allergic reaction is as violent as blowing up or having the back of your throat close up. Sometimes, an allergy can have just very annoying consequences. Shellfish is a very common allergy.

It's an allergy. Just because you don't get hives or your throat closes up...it's still an allergy, you just react differently. I would stay away from Shrimp altogether because allergies do tend to get worse with age.

I agree with your girlfriend, it sounds like a mild allergic reaction. It may be wise to avoid shrimp (and other shellfish) because if it is an allergic reaction, the response can worsen with repeated exposures (sensitization) and potentially become life threatening.

Best wishes and good luck.
