actually no.

it is in fact our reason that does give us an edge as the greatest tool users in history.

However, it is sheer arrogance to believe that we are really a "superior" species to a species like the shark or crocodile, snake, scorpion or spider that have been around for not only hundreds of thousands of years but millions of years.

When mankind is around for that long, then you can start saying that.

OH wait? you say? what about art? music? our technology?

does our technology benefit anyone but us? like a spider's web or bluebird's song? they only benefit thier own species not others. to anyone but humans, they are as utterly worthless as a discarded "trap spider's" hole.

intelligence may not be a trait that is in the long run beneficial to a species. then again mabye it would be if more people actually exhibited it.

Nope. It just makes us able to ponder our existence... We can't grow nearly as big as trees... does that make them better off?

Not really. It seems it has only help us accelerate our evolution/existence cycle. Trees have been and will be here much longer than us self pondering humans.

Bacteria still rule though as far as longevity goes.

How do you know trees don't experience sentience - can you prove they don't have a sense of self? Maybe they just work slower than we do contemplating things over a long period of time. Maybe they are just too smart to let us know.
