Every vet is different on weather or not they like to spay when an animal is in heat. It can be done safely but is does make it harder on the animal and the doctor during surgery because all the blood vessels are swollen and bleed more. She will be knocked out by an injection into a vein. Depending on how the injection goes, if the vein blows or the cat jerks and they miss, causing the medicine to take longer to take effect, they may have to give her some gas to go ahead and put her out but she will not remain on it. They will put a tube down her troat and hook her up to an anesthia machine that moniters her breathing and how much anesthia she is getting.

You can spay a female cat in heat. We did. I think the only factor in doing such a procedure is age. 2 years is still young. Your vet wouldn't schedule a procedure if he didn't think it was safe.
I think they do get knocked out a bit.
Like Bob Barker says...it's good to get your kitty spayed!

I got this off another page, you should read it..

Cats usually stay in heat for about a week, although it can be for as little as 4 days or (rarely) as long as 10. And it is a bad idea to spay them while they are in heat; it really messes with their hormones, and even though she lacks ovaries you may end up with a cat who acts like she is in heat for the rest of her life.

My vet won't spay if the animal is in heat.

They use gas to knock them out at my vet.

Tell your vet that your cat is in heat and follow his/her advice as to if it should be done or wait until later.
