There's actually a theory that the walls of some old buildings are able to store emotional energy created during times of great stress, like during a murder, and then they play back those moments when the conditions are right. So in other words, when you see a ghost, you're not seeing that actual person; you're seeing a recording that has somehow been stored by the surrounding environment. As far as I know, there's no evidence to support that theory, but I think it would explain 99% of ghost reportings. It makes sense, because a great deal of ghost sightings and experiences come from places where traumatic things happened, like a house where someone was murdered or a battlefield where hundreds of soldiers were killed. I don't doubt that people really do see what they claim to see, but I don't think they're "the spirits of the dead" or "demons" or anything like that.

It's not the spirit of the dead...you are correct. Actually, it is a demon. Satan's demons try to trick people into believing that they are seeing a deceased individual who has been long dead. The Bible says the dead are not conscience of anything. They cannot do any work or thinking or anything that living people do. The demons don't want you to believe what the Bible truthfully says about the condition of the dead so they permeate this lie that dead people are really alive as spirits.

Maybe it's an archetype in the human psyche, that serves some sort of religious/mythological survival function. For example, if a ghost walks among us that is angry or unfulfilled, then that implies that something in its lifetime was left undone or incomplete. The idea of wandering angst-filled souls could be a warning that we should make efforts to live an honest, meaningful and fulfilled life while we still can.

"Ghosts" are the imagined spirits of dead humans. Though ghosts as such are fictional, spirits do exist, both good spirits (angels) and evil ones (demons). These however spirits were created as spirits. They are not leftovers from a dead human being, but a totally different kind of being which never had a physical nature.

Since the dead have no thoughts...they merely cease to exist (the opposite of life), (Ps. 146:4, Eccl 9:5), they obviously cannot be spirits of the dead. There is someone who would like us all to believe that the punishment for disobedience in the garden of Eden did not take place (death), and that somehow we don't die, but live on in another realm. That's Satan. So, "ghosts" are Satan and his demons ways of keeping that lie alive.

In most cases, I believe that ghosts are not the spirits of those who have died. I tend to believe more that they are a portion of those who followed Satan and were cast out of heaven. Those that will never live as we live but exist in a miserable state because they rebelled against God.

I think they are demons. They scare me. I believe that anything scary is not from God. A relative that loved me would not want to scare me. Something in your house that moves things, levitates things and silently walks through the halls leaving cold spots is not from God.

DEAR SMOOTH,
AS YOU GET OLDER YOU WILL COME TO KNOW WHAT IS IMAGINED AND WHAT IS REALITY. THE "FACTS" YOU HEAR FROM YOUR FRIENDS ARE REAL TO THEM. THIS DOES NOT MAKE "GHOST STORIES" A REALITY LIKE GRAVITY IS A FACT AND A REALITY.
WHEN I THINK OF A GHOST I THINK OF CASPER "THE FRIENDLY GHOST" OR OF HOLLYWOOD THAT HAS PLAYED ON PEOPLES FEARS OF THE UNKNOWN.
