I was having an ultrasound done today and I know the tech cannot say anything about what they see and that's understandable, but my question is, if you see something really bad how do you keep a poker face?

It comes with practice. Its like a nurse knowing a patient is terminal and not giving that info even if the patient asks...a situation I have been in more than once.

From my own experience and other that I have talked to, sometimes there is a way to tell what they are seeing. I ask them if it looks ok. If they don't see anything then most of the time they feel ok to say so. If they see something they can't very well say they see nothing. But it isn't foolproof, sometimes they really wont say then I'll be nervous for a few days till I get the results. As for your question, I'm not sure its about seeing a poker face. They see people with healthy tissues and people with unhealthy tissues. Because it is part of their job and they are used to it they will not make a horrible face if they do see something wrong. For now just try to relax. There's no reason to worry unnecessarily. Try to take your mind off of the waiting and watch a few movies. Hope this helps.

I'm not a medical technician but this is a good question. It think most medical technician have to do so much... and see so many patients... they may rightfully become less emotionally envolved. They are simply "doing their work". There is no need to try to keep any poker face I can imagine. If you see something bad you well naturally feel sorry and show a more serious look. -but to the patient that can mean anything.
