There are over the counter medications if you get really stuck.
Yogurt works for some people.
There are also herbal remedies.

It is best to try to determine why you are constipated. Diet?

Sometimes medications can cause this.

On the serious side blockages and some diseases can also cause constipations.

You need to add more fiber to your diet.

I use Metamucil, which contains psyllium fiber. I use one rounded teaspoon to 8 oz of liquid, three times a day. Drinking prune juice will also stop your plugged intestine.
If you can puree your fruits and drink banana, strawberry, or an apple smoothie (omit the sugar, drink them naturally) add blueberries and make yourself a shake, it would be easier on your digestive system. Drinking carrot juice (natural, not canned) can also help with clearer thinking.

Go to Walgreens or Longs Drugs, or any drug store, and grocer store, and buy some right now. Being consitpated is not healthy and it can cause gastric problems.

Prunes before breakfast with a glass of warm water should do the trick (so would prune juice). also eat whole grains and other high fiber foods and drink plenty of water or tea.
Be careful about treating with medicine because laxatives can be habit forming, and you'll need more and more to even have a normal stool. Prunes and prune juice are the best.

First I would try stool softener caplets. If they didn't start working rather soon, I would try a mild laxative. If things were so bad that that didn't even work, I suppose I'd buy a Fleet enema.

Some medications cause constipation. If you have recently started taking a new med, call the doctor or pharmacist and see what they recommend.

Not much!
Just kiddin'

Constipation is mostly the result of hardening of the stool which makes it difficult to pass. This could be due to insufficient fiber intake or dehydration. So obviously the best solution, aside from taking an O-T-C laxative or stool softener, would be to increase your fiber intake in the form of vegetables and fruit, and increase your fluid intake(preferably water). A little bit of prune juice never hurt anybody. This should help.

yoghurt!!
prune juice always helps of course...
drink a lott of water..
eat various types of vegetables of all colours...
avoid: dairy products, fibre supplements, & drinking a lot right before you eat.

i don't know why but coffee, chocolate, and fast food make me go like crazy.. (lol) maybe that's just me tho. if all else fails get laxatives, but don't take the all the time you don't want to get dependant on them!
hope i helped =) being constipated is a *crappy* feeling!

If it's acute, needs quick relief, an enema or suppository, or a purgative available at the drug store.
If not so much, eat dried fruit, and/or take a stool softener.
To keep regular eat food with fiber, and/or take psyllium e.g. metamucil regularly.
There are all kinds of things you can do, but these will work.

This is my question. Eat lots of fruit and veggies esp. broccoli due to its high fiber and drink , drink, drink water.
Oh and exercise helps. Aerobics, something that gets your heart and lungs working.
Cut out sugars like soda because sugar slows down motility.

Drink a lot of water and eat some fiber. High fiber cereals such as "Fiber One" are an excellent source of fiber.
