Alright, I guess this really depends what kind of dog you have but, my dog LOVES old socks tied together. What you could also do is get some old ropes and tie them together!!!
Good Luck

I have a 2 year old basset at home. She loves squeaky toys and likes to tear stuff up. But she doesn't spend much time with them. The one "free" home toy I have found that she LOVES is an empty 20 oz. plastic bottle. Yes it's stupid, but she will chase it all over the house. She even likes a 2 liter bottle. She will play with it for hours at a time. I do suggest taking the wrapper off the bottle and tightening the cap as good as you can. She got to where she can remove the cap by herself, so I have to keep an eye on her. But you should always watch them when they play with any toy. So instead of throwing away the bottle, throw it on the floor in front of your dog and watch it go.

Some of the things that we use for our dog for entertainment are the following:

1. get a plastic container that rolls - we use crystal light plastic containers for example and place a few holes in it. Then we place a puppy snack in it. It will drive her crazy for hours until she can get it open.
2. Old plastic soda pop containers with the lids on. Drives them crazy however you have to make sure that with this toy not to leave them along for a long period of time. They can tear apart a piece of plastic and get it stuck in the throat.
3. Paper towel rolls or wrapping paper rolls.
4. Hard plastic container that is strong enough for your breeds teeth with lid. Place a few coffee beans inside to make it make noise.
5. Ice cubes. Good for the summer months.

Suggestion on what not to do is use anything that you use on a daily basis. For instance, if you use shoes or socks, your dog can get confused and chew the wrong one. If you have nice shoes, you won't for long. Also, be careful about the type of stuffed toys that you give your dog. Dogs get confused and will start to chew your children's toys after that toy is gone. Plus, never give a dog anything that has hard eyes or other parts that can be swallowed.

Tie your old socks & clothes into knots like a rope toy. The older the socks the better. My dogs love sock made rope toys.

My dog had that problem...Try old socks like tying them in a knot then giving them to the dog. My dog really enjoyed them. aha and also you can try old stuffed animals but as soon as they rip open throw them away,..tennis balls. Old bones from when you cook?

my lab's favorite tug toy is an old sock. you don't have to do anything to it but take it out of the sock bucket and wave it in front of his nose.
