Artificially created mental boundary? I believe in a world based on fact and proof, I believe what i can see, i can not see god or any evidence of his existence, i see a world that evolved into what it is now, and that makes a lot more sense than anything the bible says. Apparently the world is only 5000 years old, we have proved it to be several million, you believe a man was born from a virgin (impossible in itself) died on a cross and then came back to life, you also believe this man could perform miracles and treat incurable conditions just by touching people, again all of this is completely impossible. Finally you believe that there is someone there, someone who somehow had the vision to create all this and is still there, you believe this thing knows you along with everyone else in the world and that he can answer your prayers, how can he hear you along with every single other christian on the planet, distinguish between you and do something about it? My life has a worthwhile purpose, i live to experience life, enjoy myself, do amasing things, earn money to go and do more things, that's more purpose than devoting my life to a fictional book so that when I'm dead i can carry on living in a make believe place.

This is the kind of intolerane I'm talking about.
I'm no atheist, but I'm pretty darn sure that the Lord wouldn't want believers talking like that.
And anyway, what the heck does belief (or lack of same) have to do with "purpose in life."
Everyone has a purpose. Some are perhaps more noble; some are simpler. A person without purpose or hope is dangerously close to suicide.
We all have a reason for getting out of bed in the morning and getting vertical - whether we're "born-agains," atheists, deists, agnostics, whatever.
Everybody should just chill out and join hands.

We feel empty inside, even if we don't notice, huh? Then why ask the question? I do believe we atheists are capable of the full gamut of emotions, just like theists. Do you feel empty inside when you are in love, or when you hold your newborn child? We all have the same instinctive purpose in life as any other animals - to survive, reproduce, send our genetic material out there into the world. We also have the capacity to feel a burden for our fellow man, for our planet, etc. Compassion and empathy are certainly not restricted to theists. If anything, we have more purpose in our lives because we know this is all we have. There is no paradise waiting for us when we die. This life is all there is, and we only get one chance.

Interesting set of assumptions you've got there. I wonder where they may have come from.
You might do well to actually carry on a dialogue with some atheists and determine whether your assumptions have any validity before posting them. Otherwise, people might get the impession that you are functioning within artificially created mental boundaries.

Actually, My purpose in life is to progress and learn more about the universe. My comfort zone is my family and all the friends around me. I constantly see further through my created mental boundary by studying other cultures and traditions. Your generalization of atheists as suicide destined is misleading and false!

I am atheist. I have purpose. My purpose isn't supernatural (read = imaginary and man-made). My purpose does not lie in the belief in an intangible daddy figure. My purpose wasn't fed to me at an impressionable age by someone who had the same thing fed to them at an impressionable age, etc.(back to the cave men).
What "artificially created mental boundary" are you referring to? I have no idea what it is you are talking about there.

I'm not an atheists, but life has no purpose. Or I might say the purpose of life is life, & life is aways now. Life is truth not words. The truth of life is beyond words, although words can point to the truth of life. The ego needs a purpose, truth or life needs no purpose.

What an inane question.
Purpose is love, laughter and fine wine. Purpose is enjoying this life, and allowing others to enjoy theirs.
These are simple things that all non-deranged people feel innately, and this kind of sympathy and altruism can be explained by evolutionary factors.
My purpose IS this life. Your purpose, I would assume, is to spend all of this life wasted in the vain attempt of gaining a second, supposedly better, life somewhere else. To imply that because one doesn't believe in the afterlife, that they shouldn't care about this life and enjoy it is simply idiotic.

How does it feel to be so closed minded you can't see past your own religious limits?
An Atheist does NOT feel no purpose to life. Its Christians that can't get over their slavery to their god.
Atheists have their own purpose. They make their own choices without a god. They aren't limited in their world view like the religious.
YOUR artificially created boundary has destroyed lives.
So how are you so high and mighty?
See, unlike you, Atheists aren't afraid of life. They don't spend all of their existance preparing for death.
You must lead a sad existance when the only purpose you can see to life is dying.

How does it feel that the only thing that gives you purpose in life is your belief in an afterlife? Maybe it's time you acknowledge and accept what is. Blind faith has no place in a thinking mind. No pie-in-the-sky; we must act in this world as we see it and as it really is rather than calmly wait for the next.
There is no ultimate purpose in life, you have to create it though your actions and deeds. Ever hear the phrase life is what you make it? Only you can give your life meaning.
