Some children at that age don't require naps (they simply aren't tired therefore don't need them). But most kids that age do. Their little bodies tire quickly and they need a nap to strengthen up again.

My children stopped napping around age 2. I was fine with it because their bedtime was at 8pm and they happily went to bed and stayed there until morning. All children are different though, I've known some that need naps until they start school and beyond. Its all what works best for them and you as a family.

i have to say it isn't necessary, sometimes nice when they don't. my son is almost three and he hasn't napped for months. it actually makes him go to bed earlier. if he takes a nap he is up till ten or so. some days when we are busy he will fall asleep while i am driving.

Naps are necessary for pre-schoolers to help parents/caregivers maintain sanity!! :-)

From what I understand, most preschools don't require the children to actually sleep- they just have to remain calm and quiet for the children who DO need to sleep.

The ones I know get really cranky if they don't get naps.
