Just remember that if you report it to your supervisor, then you must report all the details of the things you said or did which precipitated the argument. For example, if you insulted the person or antagonized them, you may get your employer to prevent the action again (by firing or disciplining the other employee), but you may also show yourself to be a problem causing element at work.
Tread with caution, and be honest with yourself about what you did, but if the attack was relatively unprovoked, or if it was provoked by you stating your opinion or expressing yourself within your constitutional rights, then absolutely inform your supervisor. And if your supervisor does nothing, and the assault is repeated, contact the human rights commission. Nobody has the right to assault you at work, even if your opinions disagree.

File a police report. Isn't that what you would do if some stranger on the street came up and tried to take a punch at you? Or would you chalk that up to a learning experience?

I personally wouldn't tell the supervisor because say the guy gets fired, then he's really going to whup your tail or worse come back blazing saddles, he's already shown his violent streak... I'd just chalk it up as a learning experience and stay away from him at all costs.

If you like the guy and it was just a heated argument, one time thing, then don't report him, because any employer worth his weight in dust will fire him.
If you don't like him - definitely tell your boss. And perhaps the police. Assault is a crime.

Report it to the boss and then avoid this person. There needs to be some paperwork filed on this in case he ever kills you or someone else by cracking up.

Mention it to the boss, and call the police or office security if anything like this happens again.

You need to report this. If you let this go now, this coworker's actions will only get worst. He can do this to you again or he can do this to other coworkers. If you boss doesn't care report him to HR. this guy needs to go.

I think you should speak to your supervisor 1 on 1 to see if they can discuss the problem with the other member of staff.

You should inform your boss. Such behavior cannot and should not be tolerated. However, try not to get into such heated 'debates' in the work place.
