I had an account that was overdrawn, and it was closed. The bank sent me to Check Systems. I paid off the total amount, but I'm still listed. Are there any banks that will open an account for me?

Have you contacted check systems about what the procedure/ policy is for having your name/ information removed? Sometimes all you have to do is ask.

Oh man, Check Systems are a bunch of *****.

First of all, they operate basically like a credit bureau. So, you have the same legal rights under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. You should first of all go to Check Systems' website and request your report. Do this no matter what.

Then, you need to dispute that charge the old bank had on you. If they don't respond, then CS will remove that from your report, and you will no longer have the problem. If the bank affirms it, then you should be able to get it resolved by showing proof of the payoff.

So back to the ORIGINAL question - there is a website (for a fee) that lists banks that don't use Check Systems, but I would recommend pulling out the phone book and trying some Credit Unions. They are often a single location, and many don't use Check Systems. The catch is you have to be a Member (or Share Holder) at the credit union, and have to open a savings account with $50 or $100 minimum. For now, just call some of the CUs and ask if they use Check Systems. Many of them will understand.

Good luck with your current issues with the bank!

any bank will probably do it but take the proof of payment with you. Call check systems and ask them if they can take you off of their system.
GOOD LUCK!
