Poodles are very, very smart dogs. If you give in to them and feed human food, that's what they'll and nothing else. But, human food isn't good for them, and you need to not give in to your dog.
Just give her dog food and try to resist giving in to the poodle. They love to manipulate their owners.

Try this - have some dry dog on the table while your eating, when she begs give her some of the dog food. Your vet is correct if you don't give in when she gets hungry enough she will eat her food from the bowl. A large dog can go for several days and still be fine. As a vet I feed mine only dog food; when I got my last one (small mixed breed) the previous owner she that he would never ate dog. I held out after about 5 days he started eating.

Try mixing a little table food in with can dog food. Start with mostly table food, then just eliminate a small amount of table food each day until it becomes all dog food. Giving table food all of the time isn't good for any dog. It doesn't provide the animal with the right kind of vitamins and minerals that it's body needs. As far as gaining weight on just table food, well, that can happen too even with dog food. It's activity related. Keep the dog active, it won't gain a lot of weight. Makes sense to me!

We had the same problem before about our dog wanting only table food. We adopted her from people who had foster children and when I asked them what she (our dog) liked to eat they said anything and started naming off food items like cereal and many other food items that supposedly the kids feed her. I re-asked the question again letting them know I meant dog food...well when we got her home she didn't want dog food at all! I then started putting gravy on her dog food and I would only give her tiny bits of table food mixed in with her dog food for maybe a week or two, just to let her get used to dog food. When she got use to eating the dog food I completely stopped letting her have any table food. So I guess I sort of weaned her off of table food. She has done great and has been a very big part of our family!! Just give your dog lots of love & affection and she will learn to love, trust & eat the right things! Good Luck & Congradulations on your new doggie!

Buy Natural Balance dog food. It is the highest rated and they make a meaty meal that comes in a tube. My dogs jump in the air and cry for it. I tell them it is a treat when actually it is a full balanced dog food. It smells like Italian Salami, and you cut off chunks of it. My dogs also love the all natural kibble, and yes they were junk food junkies, (Poms) until I now treat them with the Natural Balance dog food and have thrown all the snacks away. Try it just once (mine love the liver) and you will see what I mean about changing your dog's life.
They don't beg at the table anymore because I feed them this right before I eat.

give her lots of attention and let her feel secure. If she will only eat table food that is not good. I would recommend that you try a pet food that just about all dogs love and it is made with human grade ingredients as well. Good Luck.

Table food is the WORST thing you can feed her! a human kid would like to eat candy all day, but you wouldn't let them because it's no good right? same goes for dogs. don't feel guilty about not giving her table scraps. she won't feel any less loved! dogs love table food, but they don't think about food the way people do. get her some yummy dog treats and work on training her. that will help her feel loved because she is spending time with you. leave out the dog food you want her to eat. don't do anything special to it. she might resist eating it at first because she has been spoiled with table food, but she won't starve herself and she'll eat eventually. when she's hungry enough, she'll eat her kibble. just don't worry, i promise it won't hurt her feelings to cut out the table food. dogs just don't think like that. you want her to live a long healthy life, and a good diet is the way to give her one.

I have a poodle for a while now and he loves to eat table food. Although, I would sometimes give him a small piece of table food into his regular food once I am done eating. It helps him to eat and feel loved.

instead of just putting the dry kibble out and leaving it. you need to put the food down and let her have about 5 to 10 min to eat and then pick it up and feed it to her again that evening. you can put a little water on the food. as to make her feel a home just play with her as much as you can and walk also. good luck

You have got to stop feeding her table food. When she gets hungry enough, she will eat dog food. Make sure she has a space that is all her own (a pen or crate) and has some blankets and toys she can snuggle with. Also, be sure to give her plenty of exercise.
