If you have a FAX modem, you need to install the FAX component.

In Start
Settings
Control Panel
Add/Remove

Add
FAX component (not hardware or software)

After you have added it, it has to be configured. On my PC the software running the FAX model is listed in Printers.

After you have configures the FAX, just type your document and File, Print. Select FAX as the printer. Follow the prompts.

A word of caution, on my PC if the line is busy and the FAX fails, it sits in the outbox. If I shutdown, then later turn the PC on, the FAX will try to send before Windows is loaded -- the PC freezes. So - if a FAX fails, go to the outbox and delete it before shutdown. When you are ready to FAX, reopen the document and File, Print, FAX.

WINFAX is the most popular program that I know of. They have several versions. There is a free download, but if you buy the WINFAX PRO series it has more "bells & whistles". Check your search feature for "winfax". You might have to enter the site and check the particulars, but most documents will fax. MS Word has a fax feature that you can set up, also.

It aint a matter of software, its hardware you need! Fax is sent through a phone line. You will need a phone modem card.

There are some programmes available. Try Mightyfax. Google it. You don't have to have seperate hardware, but you may need a dial-up connection.
