My hubby and I go back and forth about this. I like pickles, so this is nothing against pickles themselves. His mom uses pickle juice in her potato salad, which is just wierd to me. My mom adds sweet pickles to her macaroni salad, which I have always picked out. What is the fascination with pickles in these salads?????

I can eat it either way. I do like pickle juice in potato salad, though because it keeps it from being so dry. Macaroni salad with sweet pickles (just a few) adds extra flavor, to what might otherwise be very bland pasta with mayo.

I've never seen pickles in macaroni salad. I use dill pickles in my potato salad, although some people use sweet. I'm sure you can find recipes for potato salad without the pickles if you don't like them in there.

My family makes potato salad with chopped Dill pickles in it. I love it. I can't imagine eating pickles of any kind in my macaroni salad though. Funny how peoples tastes vary so much.

Now hard boiled eggs I can't do very well. It's the texture and the smell. However, my mom uses a cheese shredder and shreds the eggs. I don't notice them once they are mixed up with everything else. It works out great. Best wishes to you.

Yes sweet pickles. In my mac salad I add pickle juice to the dressing as well.

Pickle juice, not pickles in the potato salad, definitely. I am not so sure about the macaroni salad, since it's usually just nasty.

It's all a matter of taste and how people were raised. I don't mind SOME pickles in potato salad but in macaroni salad it's defiantly out. When it comes to mac salad, I'm old fashioned when it come to the mac salad. Mac, celery, tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peper and a little bit of Colby cheese diced with Miracle whip.
