Hello there. First of all I hope your having a great day. Acne can be very difficult and very aggravating. A very big misconception with people is that they feel they need to overtreat the skin. They need to wash, wash, pick, pick, scrub, scrub. And that's not the deal at all. In order to have great skin, you need to be gentle. your cleanser needs to be gentle and then you need to have a very powerful medical treatment to follow. A great perscription I sugget is Benzaclin. It is made of Benzoyl Peroxide and a very potent acid that actually deletes the bacteria off of the skin. This perscription can be filed by a simple phone call to the family doctor. Just call or if you are a child have your parent call and say "Hello, I have a son/daughter that is struggling with acne and I would like perscription of Benzaclin. This should be no problem and a great deal of it is covered by insurance. It is regularly 150.00 dollars (I use it) but we pay on 30.00. Don't ever settle for looking "kinda funny." You have great skin under your acne! It just takes some work. If you decide not to use perscription, then I have another great alternative. It's made by Clean and Clear. It's called Persa-gel. it's 10% benzoyl peroxide and it is very powerful, and does the job. If you choose one of these options and I strongly suggest you do... then you need a good cleansing and moisturizing routine. I suggest a FOAMING cleanser. Many compaines have them... Aveeno, Neutrogena. Then after you apply the medication (in a very thing layer) do not glob the product on, this will result in overdrying and "flaking" of the skin. Yoy need to apply and oil free moisturizer. Neutrogena has this as well. It is important that it is OIL FREE! So, cleans, treat, moisturize. It's not expensive, and it's so easy. All you have to do is make the effort and set aside that five minutes in the morning and in the night.

I just went to the doctor yesterday and asked the same question. I have the same problem. Her reply: STOP DRINKING SODA! I've used pills, medical creams and ointments, over the counter crap, etc. and of course, nothing has worked for me. I was even thinking of trying ProActive Solution you see on TV. But anyways, the doc said if I lay off the soda completely, my skin will start to improve. I used to have acne extremely bad but now it went down a lot. My only problem area is around my mouth. One other thing I do to keep my skin dry (I have oily skin): I go tanning a few times a week. This dries out my pores and has cleared up about 95% of my skin. And the benefit...you look great! The only bad thing is it greatly increases chances of skin cancer, and it's a pretty expensive treatment for acne. It's a win or loose situation, I guess. But that's what works the best for me so far. Now I will try to lay off the soda and see how much that helps. Hope this was some what useful. Good Luck!

There isn't really a short answer to this. Dermatologists are probably covered, but it depends on your medical plan. And if it's an HMO, you'll need a dermatology referral from your primary care physician. So talk to your parents and your doctor. That's the first answer.

You can go to your insurance's website and they will give you a list of dermatologists that are covered by your insurance. That is what I did and I think we only pay $35 dollars a visit. For tips I would try Purpose cleanser and their redness reducing moisturizer with SPF.

Actually yes, most dermatological procedure/treatment is covered by insurance by a certain per cent and after the yearly deductible is met. I highly encourage a dermatologists, esp. if over-the-counter hasn't worked. Watch your diet as well.

Even if it is expensive I highly recommend talking to a dermatologist about your skin. I went and was given medication which cleared up my skin completely from being quite severe to clear in several months. It really is worth sorting now as it is then often under control for (hopefully) years to come.

I have the same problem and I've gone to see a dermotologist and I've started seeing great results. You can use health insurance to cover most of the cost.
