I have been taking Prilosec for over a year, and have broken 4 teeth in that time. My suspicions are the effects of Prilosec (or Prevacid), which I took earlier. Before this time, I had no problem. Thanks.

I'm betting that you are taking Prilosec for GERD and the gastric acids have weakened your teeth to the point that the enamel is finally starting to chip away.

Prilosec is not known to cause teeth to break.

Not that I've ever heard of. My children have both been on prevacid for over a year and no problems with their teeth. However, my son has errosion from the condition (GERD) that he takes the Prevacid for. Your teeth could be weakened from the reflux and that's what's causing it. Why are you taking Prilosec- did your dr suggest it? Have you had a scope done? Even if you feel your reflux is under control, it may not be and you may want to have a scope done to be sure.

I personally know a man who used Prilosec for 20 years daily. His teeth all broke off. I know another whose teeth have begun to break off. The one who used for 20 years now needs a hip replacement. He still takes Prilosec.

No, you either had large filling breaking down, stress and gritting your teeth to cause the fractures- not the meds.
