my fiance and i really love to go hiking at the state parks near us. our favorite ones are Treman Park http://www.cs.cornell.edu/~dmitriev/photo_album/at_cornell/robert_treman/jpg_Z_PICT0125.htm
(piccy of my favortie part) and Toughannock Park http://www.taughannock.com/photo1.html (overall piccy of the falls)and we were maybe thinking of having our wedding at one of them, since it would be cheaper than a lot of other places (as much as i love some of the castels i've found, they're rreally expensive!!). would most people think this is really weird? and is this a good idea? would you go to a wedding at a state park? do they even allow weddings at state parks? or do you think it'd be too awkward for guests, especially since ours is a medieval theme, and even i feel silly wearing a costume not at the Ren fair. does anyone know of any other outdoor places, maybe some gardens or smoething in NY that aren't really expensive but would make a pretty place for a wedding?

for those who are wondering, both of these parks are in Tompkins county New York.
also, for those people saying piccy is immature, it's an abbreviation i use all the time, especially with friends. when you're an artist, you usually have odd terms for pictures, drawing, etc. mine just happens to be piccy. others i've heard.. blurb (don't ask!! that person was very odd!!) and others which i shouldn't post due to inaproprate language. obviously you're the immature ones for not being able to hold your tongues.

Those are both lovely spots. You have to get special permission to have a wedding in a state park, but it's usually allowed. My step son got married at the bottom of the Grand Canyon in a canoe, so anything's possible.
For a medieval theme I like the first pic.....the one with the bridge. That would be a lovely spot. I think period costumes would be terrific. It's YOUR wedding and you should jolly well do what pleases you. Yes, I would attend a wedding there. Depending on how the guests would get to the spot of course.....it might prove too much for your elderly grandmother though.

OK, these are both gorgeous places, especially the first one I can totally see with a Renaissance theme!!! I think if you like it, go for it. Contact the state park rangers office to see about having a wedding there, you'll be surprized though. A good friend of mine got married in a county park, she just had to pay a nominal fee, because she wasn't even reserving a shelter.
Congrats and good luck!

Since you are going with a medieval theme, I recommend getting married at the Renn Faire. Some Renn Faires have wedding packages. I participated in one and it was awesome!
If your heart is set at the waterfalls, it is beautiful, but might be too noisy, depending on how big the waterfalls are.
Don't worry about feeling silly with the medieval theme. Had friends who had a Halloween costume wedding. Everyone showed up in different costumes. The most shocking was the bride's father. He showed up in a Playboy bunny outfit with fishnet stockings and heels. It was not a pretty picture! LOL!

That's such an original idea. I love it. I'm not sure if the state parks allow it. If they don't maybe your local forest preserve will. Good Luck, and I would totally go, if I know some one who did that. You should keep in mind that they are usually open from dawn to dusk, so you'd pro have to schedule everything around those hours.

think about it this way you are going to have to provide EVERYTHING when you do an outside wedding. most parks will allow you to have the wedding there but it is pretty pricy. i know in dallas i couldnt find anything for less than $1200 for like 3 hours and that was only for the area and in that time you have to set up and take down or they will charge more. good luck! and congrads!

I think the mountains sounds like a great place. Check with the state park. If not you can always use a beach I know someone that used a cliff that was very green and it was over the ocean and it was breathtaking and romantic. They had it early evening.

I can't answer your questions about NY-area gardens, but I think that your idea of having your wedding at a state park is GREAT! I hope that your plan works out well for you! What time of year will you be having your wedding? (I am planning our outdoor wedding for the beach.)

I would love to go to a wedding outdoors. I have never experienced that. Try looking into the state/county parks, any kind of gardens or someone's backyard that you are close to.
