I'm guessing you are talking about same room? This can be tricky however you can get them to do it. Our dog and cat (born a year apart) love each other and play and sleep together. Basically, you have to introduce your cat and dog. Take something from each animal, a blanket from each is the best and switch them. Then keep switching them for a few days. The two animals have to get used to the new smells. Then slowly move the two animals close together. For instance, you need to place them in closed rooms next to each other. They should be able to hear each other through the walls however not be able to see or touch each other - which is important. Then, slowly bring them closer and closer (small amounts of time each) until they can be in the same room together. It take a long time however they will be able to stay in the same room after a while. Good Luck~
