Make sure to have him checked for diabetes and have his kidneys checked also. There are rare diseases that damages the kidneys and gives the appearance of diabetes. If your doctor isn't giving a prognosis or diagnosis that is working then keep asking, and then ask another doctor.
Look for other signs. Are his eyes very dry? does he keep rubbing them? Is he sensitive to sunlight? Is there anything else that he might be doing differently or strangely? If so then TELL YOUR DOCTOR.
Take him to the doctor as soon as possible since this might be a more serious condition than one might think.
Also, be careful not to give him too much water, because then he will suffer from water intoxication. Which is dangerous in children.

It's okay for him to drink that much. His body is telling him to drink so let him. Drinking alot of water is sometimes a sign of dehydration. I have a 16 month old and he drinks water like he hasn't had a drink in forever. He will sit and drink water all day. I think it is just how little ones are. His doctor says it is perfectly normal and very good that he wants water all the time like that.

Were not doctors I think some of these people are just trying to worry you. I don't know if its normal but I do know that my son who is 3 1/2 drinks alot too. The doctor thinks he is fine though. So i wouldn't worry about you little one. If you are concerned call his doctor. they can better tell you whats going on. good luck. â¥

Is he truly thirsty or is this just more of a habit with him? When I say "habit", I mean does he just drink if he has one with him or is he constantly asking for drinks? If he's asking for something to drink all the time, you should talk to his pediatrician.
Constant thirst is a sign of diabetes. If he's just drinking for the sake of drinking then I don't think you have anything to worry about.

In addition to the other responses about diabetes, I would suggest lowering his sodium/salt intake. Definitely get him checked though because too much water can also mess up the balance of electrolytes. And no, gatorade will not fix this.

Although I'm not sure exactly the required amount, it does sound like an awfull lot. It can't harm him but it might be the sign of something. Not something bad, maybe just a cold?

I think it would be alright at least its not juice hes drinking, but to be on the safe side get the doc to do a urine sample to check for diabetis as this can be a really commen sign.
Better to be on the safe side i would say.

Maybe he just likes it.
Perhaps he is drinking through the night because he can.
But with this level of concern, I would be taking my little one to the doctor :)
